Pressed right up against the salary cap, it appeared to be a difficult task for John Schneider and the Seahawks to even attempt to improve their pass rush. However, they did just that last week, sending B.J. Finney and a seventh-round pick to the Bengals for Carlos Dunlap.
While shedding Finney’s unwelcome cap hit helped matters, so too did Dunlap. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Dunlap agreed to a reworked deal for 2020 in order to land in Seattle.

As detailed in Yates’ tweet, Dunlap was due $4.59 million for the remainder of the 2020 season, the prorated amount of his $7.8 million salary. Under the reworked contract, Dunlap will now earn $2 million for the remainder of 2020, with a $3 million roster bonus due on the fifth day of the 2021 league year.
Should Dunlap produce down the stretch for the Seahawks and fit into their future plans, the re-worked deal will give him a pay bump for 2021. However, with a cap hit now set at $14.1 million, an extension could be an option in order to lower that figure. Otherwise, Dunlap can hit free agency.
Just a week into his Seattle tenure, Dunlap has already helped the Seahawks’ books. Now, it’s time for the pass rusher to help Seattle on the field and improve a disappointing pass rush.
