Will it stay or will it go? That’s the big question when it comes to the Warriors’ No. 2 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Golden State reportedly has tried to dangle the pick but teams aren’t enticed enough to send the Warriors a star. ESPN’s Zach Lowe reported Thursday that the Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves, who own the No. 1 overall pick, have explored trading the top two picks in the draft for an All-NBA level player. But sources have told Lowe the Washington Wizards aren’t willing to trade Bradley Beal for either pick, and the same goes for the Philadelphia 76ers with Ben Simmons and the Phoenix Suns with Devin Booker.
So, will the Warriors look to make a deal for a different star or keep the pick and build for the future? They of course could look to trade down while also acquiring a player as well. That seems like the most realistic path if they do indeed want to trade the pick.
The Warriors have been adamant about wanting to keep their top pick in this year’s draft. Can they find a player who both fits their win-now mentality while also growing as a future star? That’s hard to answer, especially in an odd draft that doesn’t have a sure-fire star.

Steve Kerr could have his eyes on big man James Wiseman, who seems to fit the roster perfectly right now. He could prefer a versatile guard like Anthony Edwards or Tyrese Haliburton. Perhaps it’s a wing like Deni Avdija or Devin Vassell.
The lead up to the draft has felt like forever, and that’s an understatement. An event that was set for June finally will take place Nov. 18, and we soon will know the answers to all the questions surrounding the Warriors.
