Glover Teixeira kept himself in the thick of the light heavyweight title picture on Saturday and the division’s top stars took note.
Following Teixeira’s third-round submission win over Thiago Santos in the UFC Vegas 13 main event, current 205-pound champion Jan Blachowicz tweeted that he welcomes a fight with the Brazilian veteran.
“Great fight and incredible run by Glover Teixeira,” Blachowicz wrote. “You totally deserve to fight for the title and get taste of the legendary Polish power.
“If Adesanya can’t wait ‘til March, let’s go.”
At the moment, UFC President Dana White and the matchmakers have made it public that they are working on a superfight between Blachowicz and UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. But the door appears to be at least slightly open for Teixeira, 41, who has won five straight fights and now holds the record for the most finishes and most submissions ever by a UFC light heavyweight.
Three-time UFC champion Jon Jones—supposedly working on a move up to the heavyweight division—also made sure to comment on Saturday’s headliner.
In regards to Teixeira’s win, which he dominated on the ground after recovering from Santos’ devastating punches on more than one occasion, Jones was highly complimentary and went as far as to call Teixeira “the new GOAT” (perhaps facetiously). He also lobbied for Teixeira to get another title shot.

I’m proud to have beat this guy, I like him

Teixeira’s first title shot occurred at UFC 172 in April 2014. He lost a unanimous decision to Jones.
Jones also remarked that Santos’ loss saved him from having to hear about a potential rematch between him and “Marreta.” The two fought at UFC 239 in July of last year, with Jones winning a close split decision that prompted many to call for a rematch between the two.
With Santos now suffering back-to-back losses, Jones doesn’t expect to hear more of that talk anytime soon.
So glad I don’t have to read tweets about running from Santos, If he would’ve won everyone would be talking mad trash tonight
