New York Giants coach Joe Judge said Monday that wide receiver Golden Tate, left behind as a disciplinary measure when the team traveled to face the Washington Football Team over the weekend is back with the Giants and expected to play in Week 10 vs. the Philadelphia Eagles.
“He was back in there with us today working,” Judge said, indicating Tate will practice on Wednesday. “I would anticipate Golden being active (on Sunday vs. the Philadelphia Eagles). I have no reason to believe he wouldn’t be active at this point.”
Why is the offensive line rotation working?
Offensive linemen will tell you continuity is key to a line’s success. So, why is the Giants rotation of Andrew Thomas, Matt Peart and Cam Fleming at tackle working?
“We’ve talked about that a lot internally, to be honest with you,” Judge said. “Part of the reason is maybe it gives our guys a bit of a breather, keeps ‘em a little bit fresher, they’ve got fresher legs out there … part of it may be it changes a little bit what the defense can do to attack you … the one thing we’ve concluded is whatever the reasons on the other side may be we like how it’s working for us and we’re going to keep on going with it.”
Judge credit rookie Matt Peart, who has been going back-and-forth from right to left tackle.
“That’s very impressive, especially for a young guy like Matt,” Judge said. “He’s really shown a lot of progress in doing that, and that’s definitely something that’s better preparing him for the remainder of his career.”
Reprising the fumble drill?
After the crazy play in which Jabrill Peppers recovered a Washington fumble after the ball had bounded 20+ yards down the field with several players missing opportunities to haul it in, Judge was asked if he would bring back the slip and slide fumble recovery drill.
“You bet,” Judge said. “We definitely don’t want to be out there looking like the Keystone Cops trying to get that ball.”
