NBA Free Agency: Winners, losers, first thoughts from Day 1 – The Athletic

The NBA’s silly season, also known as free agency, began at 6 p.m. Friday and did not disappoint. Here are 19 thoughts from the first day of a truncated session, given that last season ended in October and training camp starts just after Thanksgiving.

1. Montrezl Harrell fired Rich Paul as his agent just before the start of free agency in 2018. Among the reasons, Harrell thought some of Paul’s lower-tier clients did not get the same attention as the headliners. Like, say, LeBron James.

2. A little more than two years later, Harrell, with Paul as his agent again, pulled off maybe the stunner of the 2020 free agency by leaving the Los Angeles Clippers to join Paul clients LeBron, Anthony Davis, and the world champion Los Angeles Lakers.
