Not everyone is exchanging gifts this holiday season, but if you are, you may want to consider shopping at local small businesses. After eight months of the pandemic, our neighborhood shops and restaurants could our support more than ever. In fact, between 1.4 million and 2.1 million U.S. small businesses could close permanently as a result of the first four months of the pandemic alone. In addition to shopping at local establishments, you can also enter to get paid $1,000 to spend at small businesses this holiday season. Here’s how to apply.
The details
Business.org is looking for someone to drop $1,000 a minimum of three small businesses, either online or in-store, in accordance with your area’s COVID-19 safety guidelines. (And no, third-party Amazon sellers don’t meet the criteria for shopping small.) The chosen candidate will report back to the site about their experience, including details about the small businesses’ customer service, price and products.
How to apply
In order to apply for the $1,000, you have to be at least 18 years-old and legally authorized to work in the United States. The process involves filling out this form, and in 100 words or fewer, explaining why supporting small businesses is important to you. And unlike a lot of these dream job contests, the winner of this one will be chosen based on the quality of their application, instead of at random.
