It’s been nearly two weeks since the launch of the PS5 and over two months since preorders went live at a moment’s notice. If you’re a PlayStation fan trying to buy a PS5, you know that in that time period, the PS5 retail situation has been endlessly hectic and frustrating, with the system consistently selling out in a matter of moments, sites crashing, and scalpers cashing in on the situation by selling the system for over $1,000. The PS5 launch day restocks were particularly disappointing–many stores restocked and sold out instantly at midnight, and Walmart offered multiple online restocks throughout the day, each of which had slow loading times, site crashes, and errors in checkout. In short, if you’ve been trying to buy a PS5 and haven’t done so yet, you’re not alone, and we feel your pain.
Fortunately, another opportunity is coming up to buy the PS5 this week, though we don’t expect it to go any more smoothly than previous PS5 restocks. For Black Friday 2020, retailers like Walmart and GameStop have confirmed PS5 availability, but you’ll want to be prepared ahead of time if you want a shot at getting the console in time for the holidays. Here’s everything we know about PS5 Black Friday restocks and availability.
Where to buy the PS5 during Black Friday 2020
Black Friday GameStop PS5 restock
GameStop will have in-store-only PS5 stock on Black Friday. All stores will have a minimum of two PS5 units available when they open at 7 AM local time this Friday, November 27. Don’t expect them to have much more than that, though. We suggest calling your local store ahead of time to ask about Black Friday PS5 availability. GameStop hasn’t confirmed whether the PS5 Digital will be available in stores–again, we suggest checking with your local store and being there bright and early on Friday. (Be sure to wear a face mask if you head there in person!)
Black Friday Walmart PS5 restock
Walmart will also have the PS5 up for purchase ahead of Black Friday, according to its final Black Friday ad. The PS5 and Xbox Series X will go up for purchase online-only at 6 PM PT / 9 PM ET this Wednesday, November 25. This is a few hours after the official Black Friday sale starts online for Walmart, so you can purchase other games or accessories you want ahead of time, such as controllers, charging cradles, headsets, and the camera. As with the launch day restocks, you’ll have to be fast and extremely lucky to secure a PS5 that day. Even refreshing the second they’re available won’t guarantee you get the system. To help checkout go smoothly, be sure to update your Walmart account information and payment details beforehand.
Other possible PS5 restocks and options
Best Buy has confirmed it will not have any PS5 units in stores throughout the entire holiday season, so you won’t see the PS5 in any Best Buy brick-and-mortar stores until 2021. Though the PS5 appears in Best Buy’s Black Friday ad, the retailer would not confirm Black Friday availability to GameSpot and said that stock will be available on BestBuy.com when they get more units. We have also seen stock go up without much warning prior to Black Friday. Keep an eye out and you might be able to score one ahead of time.
PlayStation Direct has been running queues on its site nearly every day since launch, but finding a queue on PS Direct doesn’t necessarily mean the PS5 is in stock; it simply indicates high traffic to the store. It never hurts to jump in and wait if you find the queue and you’ll be at your computer for a while, but know there’s no guarantee it’ll be in stock by the time you get through.
Of course, you can always find the PS5 and its accessories on reseller sites like StockX and Ebay, but you’ll likely pay hundreds above MSRP for the console. For context, resell prices at StockX are currently between $800 and $900, though you can place bids to buy the console for less. The site has plenty of stock, so if you’re desperate, it’s worth checking out to see if you can negotiate a decent price.
