TALLAHASSEE — Florida State will not take the field for a third consecutive weekend. The Seminoles were scheduled to travel to Durham, N.C. on Saturday, December 5th, to face Duke at Wallace Wade Stadium, but that game will not be played according to the Atlantic Coast Conference on Sunday evening. A Florida State spokesperson referred to the game as being canceled.
The Atlantic Coast Conference also announced Sunday night that Duke will now host No. 10 Miami this upcoming weekend, instead of their original opponent Florida State. That game will kick off at 8 p.m. and be broadcast live on the ACC Network.
FSU’s prior two scheduled games, both at home against Clemson and then Virginia, were postponed on each of the past two mornings of the game.
The game against Clemson, which was scheduled for Saturday, November 21st, was postponed following a conference call the morning of the scheduled game where both teams’ medical personnel were unable to mutually agree on moving forward with the game.
The game against Virginia, which was scheduled for Saturday, November 28th, was postponed following positive tests, subsequent quarantining, and contact tracing within the Florida State football team. FSU Director of Athletics David Coburn stated, via a release after the postponement, that ‘contact tracing this morning determined that, with opt-outs and injuries, we had just 44 scholarship players for the game, with some position groups depleted almost entirely’.
It is unclear at this time if FSU could potentially play on the weekends of December 12th or December 19th.
Here are some scheduling notes on previously scheduled opponents:
– Virginia currently is set to host Boston College this weekend and has a re-scheduled game against Virginia Tech for December 12th. Those two games will put them at 10 games on the season, including nine conference games.
– Clemson, who doesn’t have a game scheduled for the weekend of December 12th, is likely going to be playing in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game on the weekend of December 19th. The Tigers, who travel to Virginia Tech this weekend, will be playing their 10th game of the season and ninth against a conference opponent.
– Duke does not have any teams on their schedule beyond this upcoming weekend. The Blue Devils will play their 10th game of the season on Saturday, when they host Miami, and it will be their ninth conference game.
– The original ACC schedule for the 2020 season had opponents playing 10 conference opponents, plus one non-conference opponent, for an 11-game schedule.
FSU is 2-6 on the season, including just 1-6 against conference opponents.
