Another year, another win for the Seahawks over the Eagles.
Russell Wilson threw for a touchdown, Chris Carson ran for another, and the Seattle Seahawks (8-3) shut down a horrid looking Philadelphia Eagles (3-7-1) offense in a 23-17 win. Seattle will end November atop the NFC West and in control of their fate as far as whether or not they get their first division title since 2016.
Carson Wentz was sacked six times and the Eagles offense didn’t even pick up a first down until the sixth possession of the game.
1st Half
The Eagles got the ball first and after a Jarran Reed offsides penalty, Carson Wentz threw three straight incomplete passes. Ugly but good for the Seahawks. They had fairly good field position and Russell Wilson found DK Metcalf on three catches for 31 yards. Metcalf also drew two personal foul penalties on two Eagles defenders, which set Seattle up in a goal-to-go situation. On 4th and goal at the 2, a pop pass to David Moore lost five yards and a turnover on downs. What an awful playcall. They went for a 4th and 2 on the next possession and Wilson got sacked.
As Philly’s offense kept doing nothing, the Seahawks unleashed DK Metcalf once more on a 51-yard bomb from Wilson to get to the 1. David Moore caught the fade route TD two plays later to put Seattle on the board early in the 2nd quarter. 7-0 Seahawks.
After Philly’s fifth straight three-and-out, the Seahawks engineered a 7-play, 66-yard drive that saw Chris Carson score on a 2nd and goal run from the 16, a mere one play after Russell Wilson committed an intentional grounding. 14-0 Seahawks.
Speaking of intentional grounding, this missed call really spurred on the Eagles’ eventual touchdown drive. Absolutely abysmal miss. Would have been 2nd and 30 or something like that. Dallas Goedert scored to cap off a 15-play, 75-yard sequence to close the half. They missed the PAT. 14-6 Seahawks.
2nd Half
Seattle went three-and-out to start the 3rd quarter, and the Eagles marched down the field once more. Instead of potentially trying the game, Carson Wentz was sacked by Jamal Adams and Jake Elliott kicked a 42-yard field goal. 14-9 Seahawks.
The Seahawks went 9 plays for 52 yards on its second 2nd half possession, but they shied away from going for it on 4th and 1 and instead let Jason Myers kick a 44-yard field goal to make the scoreline a familiar 17-9 Seahawks.
Seeking to tie the game in the 4th quarter, Carson Wentz threw a short pass to Travis Fulgham on 3rd down and Tre Flowers came up with a critical tackle. On 4th and 2 in their own territory and with only one timeout, the Eagles went for it and KJ Wright swatted the ball away for the turnover on downs.
DK Metcalf did this.
But he also did this.
Before that drop, Carlos Hyde had a touchdown wiped out due to a Cedric Ogbuehi holding penalty. 20-9 Seahawks.
Consecutive pass interference penalties on Shaquill Griffin and Jordyn Brooks got the Eagles deep into Seahawks territory. Instead of kicking the field goal to make it 20-12, the Eagles went for it on 4th and 4 and uh…
The Seahawks played “run the clock out” offense, punted it back to the Eagles, and Carson Wentz just got sacked some more and threw some more lousy passes. What a horribly boring game this was. 4th and 31 throw fell incomplete and the Seahawks took over with 2:14 left. They kicked another field goal to make up the final Seahawks score. 23-9 Seahawks.
The Eagles got a garbage time touchdown on a cool Hail Mary to Richard Rodgers who made one of the more remarkable one-handed grabs you’ll see. The two-point conversion was good but the onside kick was way off and recovered by DK Metcalf. 23-17 Seahawks FINAL.
