How does Fortnite one-up Galactus? With something bigger: Baby Yoda. Err, Grogu. Fortnite’s fifth season (of its second chapter) launched Wednesday with a new arc called Zero Point, which brings a new cast of heroes to the game after last season’s major Marvel-themed event.
In Zero Point, the reality of Fortnite’s island is all kinds of wacky, bringing all-new diverse areas to the landmass. And the cast of characters feels similarly strange. They range from an ancient gladiator to a winged gorgon to a cel-shaded anime battle angel. Of course, there’s The Mandalorian, his sidekick Grogu, and a cowboy stack of pancakes known as Mancake the Fighting Flapjack.
Players can help the island new characters with quests and bounties, and hire them to be your ally. Aggressive players can challenge the new characters to duels for rewards. Paying those new characters requires bars which players can earn by “completing quests and bounties, eliminating players, or finding hidden stashes around the Island.” Those bars can also buy you “new exotic weapons, upgrades, intel, services, and more.”
Fortnite chapter 2 season 5 also brings with it new weapons and items, including the Dragon’s Breath shotgun, the player-tracking Night Hawk, and Din Djarin’s Amban sniper rifle and jetpack.
Epic Games teases that Agent Jones, central to the Zero Point arc as seen in the trailer above, will bring in “even more hunters from the realities beyond.” With Fortnite characters plucked from the Marvel, DC, and Star Wars universes, what could possibly be next?
