What theyre saying about Urban Meyer, Texas and Tom Herman – 247Sports

As the pressure builds on Tom Herman at the University of Texas, the rumored biggest fish in the coaching ranks is dangerously close to being off the table for the Longhorns. Horns247 insider Chip Brown reported on Sunday night that Urban Meyer is leaning toward remaining semi-retired as a Fox Sports analyst rather than a return to the sidelines in 2021.

Citing health reasons, the former Ohio State coach stepped down in December 2018 after leading the Buckeyes to multiple national championships and an 82-9 overall record during his elite tenure. Since, Meyer has been the reported top candidate at several non-vacant blue blood programs as one of the sport’s most respected coaches.

Should the Longhorns move on from Herman this season, they would owe him a $25 million buyout and then be tasked with paying a new head coach a sizable salary to take over. Per Brown’s sources, Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian, Oregon coach Mario Cristobal, Penn State coach James Franklin and Iowa State coach Matt Campbell are among the coaches Texas has researched.

Still, Meyer is the coach Texas donors reportedly want to lead and as you can imagine, the reports have resulted in quite a bit of commentary from media members and social media users.
