Hey. It’s just a rumor. Explicitly, it’s just a rumor. But because we’re tracking potential front office and head coaching changes so closely for the Bears, and because Zimmerman is very thoughtful on this stuff, I wanted to share to discuss.
Here we go:
Had someone tell me that Pace received an unannounced 1-year contract extension to line up his contract with Nagy. If true, I think its unlikely you see a Pace-Nagy firing this year. I think you see a new team President get a year to evaluate and make decisions after 2021. #Bears

Get out everything you want. Scream. Punch. Whatever you need.
OK. You good?
So, first off all, let me agree, this is not what I want. Personally, I want the house cleaned yesterday. I don’t think the Bears will succeed moving forward with this group, and I think it’s time to make significant changes.
That said, let me offer that Zimmerman’s rumor doesn’t freak me out as much as I expected it to when I first read it. Consider that, *IF* the Bears do proceed to let Ted Phillips retire or shift responsibilities or whatever, and then *IF* the Bears do bring in a legit, big-time, true president of football operations, then I wouldn’t totally lose my mind about that person taking a year, with Pace and Nagy in place, to evaluate the organization before making his own fundamental changes. Especially if that person is in place before free agency and the draft. Something something quarterback situation something something.
Again, this is not my preferred approach. Moreover, it comes with two HUGE ifs baked in. I’m just saying, if you saw this rumor circulating and started to freak, I’m not necessarily inclined to join you just yet. Because note: Zimmerman’s rumor includes a new president coming in. And that might be more than half the battle here for long-term change.
