Patton was born in Riverside, Ga., but went to school in Omaha, Neb. While at Creighton, he was named Big East Freshman of the Year and was an unanimous choice to the Big East All-Freshman team. Patton also made All-Big East Second Team honors.
Patton was drafted 16th general by the Chicago Bulls in 2017 but his rights were traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves along with Jimmy Butler. In exchange, the Bulls got Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn, and the draft rights to Lauri Markkanen.
The Detroit Pistons revealed they have signed center Justin Patton.
In 9 NBA video games, the 6-11 Creighton product has averaged 1.8 points and 1.2 rebounds. His latest NBA video game was with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Jan. 15, but Patton has actually had some constant reps with the Milwaukee Bucks G League affiliate, the Wisconsin Herd.
In seven video games with the Herd, Patton balanced 12 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.6 helps in 25 minutes.
The Pistons had an open lineup spot since the leagues hiatus started in March. The team opted not to sign forward Donta Hall, who was on his 2nd 10-day deal.
