It’s time for yet another Nintendo leak as new details reveal that a major Nintendo Switch feature was cut prior to the console’s release.
The Nintendo Switch is still to this day one of the most innovative consoles to ever release. Even despite containing just a fraction of the power of the next-generation of gaming, Nintendo’s console refuses to quit.
In fact, the device still puts out incredible sales numbers and the Switch even outperformed the Xbox Series X in November.
This is likely to do with Nintendo’s renowned roster of games and the Switch’s groundbreaking design. But a new leak suggests that the Nintendo Switch could have had one more major feature, which was cut before launch.
Nintendo Switch Could Have Had This Major Feature
According to a new report by Comicbook, there’s one feature that the Nintendo Switch is missing that was cut shortly before launch. In a recent leak, not only did we get a look at the Nintendo Switch’s prototype design, but other details also surfaced regarding its original features.
In the old documents, readers have discovered that the Nintendo Switch originally included 3D video support. Interestingly, this would have made the console backward-compatible with the Nintendo 3DS handheld.
Of course, even the 3DS didn’t rely heavily on its 3D gimmick to sell devices by the end of its lifespan. And it’s not clear as to whether the Switch would have indeed been backward compatible either.
But the potential was cut completely, alongside the 3D video support in a later build. Back in 2014, the documents also reveal that the Nintendo Switch screen was just 480p.
Could the Switch Have Had Two Screens?
It’s possible this limited resolution was necessary because Nintendo was originally planning on the Switch having two screens. Perhaps this is why we didn’t end up with such poor image quality at launch.
Thankfully, Nintendo was able to up the resolution to 720p by the final release. And rumors suggest that the Nintendo Switch may even display 4K with its Pro model.
We’re certainly glad that the resolution saw a boost for release. After all, the Nintendo Switch would look very dated with just a 480p screen in 2020.
With the powerful PS5 and Xbox Series X to compete with, the Nintendo Switch is already struggling to keep up.
However, Nintendo is only just addressing the Switch Pro rumor, suggesting that an upgrade could be quite some time away. That’s not stopping a huge new Nintendo leak from teasing some exciting new details of what’s to come.
