Trevor Bauer is apparently not a big fan of Jon Heyman.
Bauer, the top MLB free-agent pitcher who’s never shy about firing off opinions on Twitter, once again went after the MLB reporter after a report about Bauer’s ongoing free agency.
Heyman reported Tuesday the 29-year-old Cy Young winner is seeking a five-or-six-year deal for between $36 million and $40 million a season, which would tie or break Gerrit Cole’s MLB record $36 million in average annual value. Heyman also wrote that Bauer’s agent, Rachel Luba, declined comment.
Bauer, whom the Mets are in the hunt for, mocked Heyman over the report.
“Jon thank god for you. I’m learning so much about my free agency from your tweets! Keep em coming! Also @AgentRachelLuba is her twitter tag in case you want to tag her next time.”
Bauer also took Heyman to task for saying Luba declined comment because, according to Bauer, she did not decline comment. Luba herself tweeted late Tuesday night that she was “traveling all day” and hadn’t read Heyman’s text messages seeking comment.
“If you’re referring to prior conversations we’ve had, when I declined to comment, I feel it’s disingenuous to tweet this without giving me a chance to respond to your texts this evening,” Luba wrote.
Earlier this month, Bauer tweaked Heyman on Twitter over a report that the Reds wouldn’t be able to re-sign the right-hander because he was out of their price range.
“Source?” Bauer wrote on Dec. 18. “Pretty sure all news about my free agency is running through @AgentRachelLuba. Did she tweet something I missed or is this just more fake news? 🤔.”
