The Michigan men’s basketball team’s game at Penn State, scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Penn State program.
Penn State announced on Wednesday night that it had “paused all team-related activities due to positive COVID-19 results among its Tier 1 personnel.”
Per the NCAA, Tier 1 individuals include student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers and physical therapists, medical staff, and equipment staff.
The Nittany Lions haven’t played since Dec. 30. They postponed Sunday’s game against Wisconsin as well as Tuesday’s game against Ohio State due to COVID concerns. And now they have announced that their next two games — Michigan on Saturday and Rutgers on Tuesday — are postponed.
The affected schools “will work with the Big Ten Conference to identify rescheduling options,” according to Penn State.
The Big Ten allowed for flexibility when it announced the league schedule. Michigan’s two “bye” periods are between Jan. 23 and Jan. 29 and between Feb. 22 and Feb. 26. Both match up with Penn State’s bye periods.
Michigan beat Penn State 62-58 on Dec. 13 at home.
The Wolverines will host Minnesota on Wednesday night, with tipoff scheduled for 8:37 p.m. ET. Michigan is scheduled to host Wisconsin on Tuesday.
