Steelers Burning Questions: Hall of Fame Quarterback, Part 2 – Behind the Steel Curtain

Well, it’s safe to say that the Steelers’ origination has blown up the internet with the removal of former Offensive Coordinator Randy Fichtner. It’s also safe to say that many of the Behind The Steel Curtain faithful has popped the top on a cold one and celebrated. We all know why he was hired and why he was kept around for seemingly longer than he should have been. The need to keep one Benjamin Roethlisberger happy would be the correct answer here.

Questions remain with this move, and they may have an impact on the future hall of famer. In the previous Burning Questions article I asked would the brass have the stones to cut Ben Roethlisberger? So this next questions fall in line with that original asking.

Was this move a part of the “nudging” process to maybe get the Hall of Famer to step away on his own?

Why would Roethlisberger want to go through possibly his final year and learn another system or develop a relationship with a new Offensive Coordinator. It doesn’t make sense to me other than what I’m asking in the question above. Part of a ingenious plan set forth by the front office?

Speaking of a new Offensive Coordinator, let’s assume Ben is on board and is sticking around for one last run.

Is Ben Roethlisberger included in the next hiring of said coordinator? Does he have a say ?

I just want to remind everyone I am a huge Roethlisberger fan. I have defended the guy on numerous occasions, but I also feel it’s time to start a rebuild. Like I said before, if he and the organization decide on one last shot then I will support the decision and fan the heck out of the Steelers.

With that said, my reasoning for this reboot falls on one play and one play alone, and it wasn’t any of the multiple interceptions. It was the opening snap, the one that went over Roethlisberger’s head and what ensued immediately after. I was so pissed Ben didn’t fall on that ball. It’s the playoffs and it could be the last game you play. I’m not saying Ben has never sacrificed his body for this team, and it’s fan base, but that was not the way I ever envisioned Ben Roethlisberger seemingly going out. I once called Ben a freaking warrior. When the physical tools diminish the cerebral aspect must remain, at least kick the ball out the back of the end zone. A devoted fan but it’s just time…

Go Steelers!
