Arsenal transfer round-up: Creative midfielder search ramps up as Mesut Ozil to seal exit – Mirror Online

Mesut Ozil is poised to finally seal his exit from Arsenal – over 10 months after his last appearance for the club.

The midfielder – who aptly assisted in the win over West Ham last March – has reportedly agreed to terminate his contract with the Gunners, paving the way for him to move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are linked with a number of attacking midfielders as they look to bolster their creative options.

One of their previous targets is in talks with an unspecified English club, while another is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.

There is also an update on Arsenal’s search for a new goalkeeper to deputise for Bernd Leno.

Mesut Ozil’s transfer to Fenerbahce has taken a huge step towards completion after the midfielder agreed in principle to terminate his contract with Arsenal.

Ozil, 32, had claimed he would see out the remaining six months of his £350,000-per-week deal at the Emirates.

But The Athletic reports the German World Cup winner is willing to terminate his contract in order to pave the way for a switch to Fenerbahce.

The Turkish giants have been teasing the move on social media, while Ozil travelled to the Emirates for what could be the last time.

Arsenal remain heavily linked with a number of attacking midfielders across Europe as they look to solve their lack of creativity.

The 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Thursday laid bare their shortcomings on the front foot, and youngster Emile Smith Rowe would benefit from competition for the No.10 role.

French outlet Telefoot claims Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson is in talks with an unnamed English club concerning a January move.

Sanson, 26, has been linked with Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham in past transfer windows.

Meanwhile, German publication Bild claims Julian Draxler will not leave Paris Saint-Germain in the January window – but claimed he will name his next club in March.

Draxler’s deal at Parc des Princes expires at the end of the season and the versatile attacking midfielder has often been touted to move to the Emirates in recent seasons.

Arsenal are keen to sign a new back-up goalkeeper and have shortlisted Newcastle’s Freddie Woodman, according to football.london .

Alex Runarsson has been unconvincing since joining from Dijon last summer, while Woodman, 23, won the Golden Glove as England won the Under-20 World Cup in 2017.

He has been on five loan spells away from St James’ Park and has impressed over the last season-and-a-half with Swnasea.

Woodman has kept 13 clean sheets in 22 Championship appearances this season, while the report adds his father is the Under-23s Head of Goalkeeping at Arsenal.
