It’s been barely more than a week since the Los Angeles Rams ended the season of the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, and Tuesday marks exactly one week since the Hawks parted ways with Brian Schottenheimer. Those two things have combined to bring a cycle ups and downs not common for the offseason as Seattle fans have ridden the waves of ups and downs as names have been connected to the opening.
To this point in time many of the bigger names linked to the Seahawks coaching search have been former head coaches, including Anthony Lynn, Doug Pederson and Adam Gase. However, on Monday the name of the quarterbacks coach for the Kansas City Chiefs, Mike Kafka, was floated as well. That name excited several Seahawks fans, but according to reports from later Monday, it appears as though the Hawks might be able to go ahead and scratch Kafka off the list, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

The implication that many fans have drawn is that current Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy may be the favorite to land the head coach role with the Houston Texans, and that Kafka would then slide into the offensive coordinator role in in Kansas City. Obviously, whether this proves to be the case or not won’t be known until Houston makes a decision on who its next coach will be, a decision that might not be made until the season comes to a close on February 7.
In the meantime Seattle fans will simply have to continue to speculate rampantly and hope for their candidate of choice to be hired remain patient as they wait for other openings across the league to fill and for the dust to settle on a hiring that could shed significant light on what the team’s offense might look like in 2021.
