When Joe Sakic and Bill Guerin spoke Tuesday afternoon about swapping third-pair defensemen Ian Cole and Greg Pateryn, the trade made sense to each general manager in part because the Colorado Avalanche were in Los Angeles and the Wild in Anaheim.
