This is the likeliest combination of offensive lineman for the Chiefs. They went with this group when Fisher was injured during the course of the AFC Championship Game. Andy Reid didn’t say it officially, but the language he used on Monday suggests the team is happy with the guys they’ve had in there and won’t make a change.
They’ve used the combination of Stefen Wisniewski and Andrew Wylie on the right side once during the regular season back in Week 15 against the New Orleans Saints. Wylie actually did a good job at right tackle during that game, specifically in pass protection and against a good defensive front too. He allowed a sack, but he allowed the second-fewest pressures among all Chiefs defenders on 60 pass-blocking snaps.
Wisniewski, obviously, is a veteran player who knows the system and was a big part of the team’s Super Bowl LIV victory a season ago. I think getting him in the lineup is a big plus for the team.
The big wild-card of this situation is Mike Remmers playing over on the left side. He has over 800 career snaps at the position, but he’s a long time removed from those snaps. He’s played the best football of his career in Kansas City, so there’s no reason to doubt that he’ll be able to make the switch from the right side to the left side.
All-in-all, I think this group gives the Chiefs their five best offensive linemen on the field and it probably has the most in way of built-up chemistry.
