Last week, there was a whole situation involving the video game purveyor GameStop and the stock market. (You can read an excellent explainer here.) Somehow, as a result, many Popeyes locations are giving away a free order of chicken tenders—excuse us, “tendies”—today. Here’s what to know about the promotion.
How to get free chicken tenders at Popeyes today
The promotion started yesterday and ends today, so if you want to cash in on this chicken deal, you’ll need to do it quickly. Just go to the Popeyes website or official app (no third-party delivery services) and place an order for at least $5 worth of food.
Then, at checkout, enter one of the affected stock symbols as your promo code ($GME, $AMC, $BB, or $NOK) and snag a free three-piece order of their chicken tenders.
The fine print
Do be warned, though: not every Popeyes location is participating in this promotion, so take a look on the app to see if yours is on the list before having your free-chicken hopes dashed. Similarly, some locations offer the deal for pickup, but not delivery, so check on that, too. If you live in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands, you’re out of luck, as the promotion isn’t valid there.
G/O Media may get a commission
All delivery orders must be placed through the Popeyes app (no Grubhub, Seamless, DoorDash, etc). And while deliveries over $10 are free, if you don’t hit the $10 mark, then delivery is $3.99. (So you may want to do the math to see how much those three “free” tenders are actually costing you.)
Why is this happening?
If you’re wondering what the connection is between the Wall Street situation and chicken tenders (aka “tendies”), here’s how Popeyes explained it in a statement:
Tendies is the word retail traders on websites like Reddit use to describe money or financial gain – and in our world it’s also short for chicken tenders. After the events of this past week, Popeyes®, the beloved fried chicken brand, wants to support retail traders and believes they ALL deserve tendies…
Popeyes is taking the side of the people and hopes that by supporting the online community, it will inspire others to take a stand.

Finally, if you’re ordering delivery today and live somewhere that was just blasted with snow, please tip your driver generously for going out in that mess.
