Avante Dickerson, nation’s No. 8 cornerback, signs with Oregon Ducks over Nebraska – OregonLive

Entering his Signing Day announcement, 247Sports four-star prospect Avante Dickerson was the top unsigned cornerback in the country.

By early Wednesday morning that was no longer the case, as the 6-foot, 170-pound defensive back, out of Westside High School (Omaha, Nebraska), announced his commitment to the Oregon Ducks over Nebraska and others on the 247Sports National Signing Day Show.

Moments later, the official Twitter account of the Oregon Ducks football program announced that he had signed his binding National Letter of Intent:

According to 247Sports Midland region recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks, Dickerson is yet another Oregon signee with an NFL projection:

“Long-levered corner with somewhat slight frame with very good length. Wingspan verified at 6-foot-4. Twitchy athlete who shows impressive short-area burst as well as top-end speed. Track profile supports that with sub-11.00 100 and 22.3 200. Fluid athlete with a natural backpedal and redirecting agility. Good ball skills supported by ample two-way experience and production. Started at WR and DB for Nebraska A state champion as a senior. Must add some mass and strengthen, which will help with bigger wideouts and tackling efficacy at the P5 level. Talented corner prospect with verified athleticism, length, and ball skills. Projects to high-major level with NFL Draft potential.”

In need of replacements after the departures of key secondary members Jevon Holland, Thomas Graham Jr., Deommodore Lenoir and Brady Breeze, Oregon secured Dickerson and Under Armour All-American cornerback Jaylin Davies, as well as a pair of four-star safeties – Daymon David (Maryland) and Jeffrey Bassa (Utah).

Overall, Oregon’s class remains No. 6 nationally, but Dickerson’s commitment all-but-guarantees the Ducks will finish with the top recruiting class in the Pac-12 Conference for the third consecutive cycle.
