Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic explains main difference between Thomas Tuchel and Frank Lampard – Mirror Online

Chelsea midfielder Matteo Kovacic has discussed the differences between the club under Thomas Tuchel and previous boss Frank Lampard.

The Blues continued their unbeaten record under the new boss as they beat Tottenham away from home on Thursday night.

A penalty from Jorginho was enough to earn Tuchel’s side the three points and see them into sixth spot in the Premier League table.

Throughout the game, Chelsea dominated possession and had 16 shots compared to Tottenham’s seven.

And Kovacic explained afterwards that since Tuchel took over from Lampard, he has placed a real focus on trying to get his team to move the ball forward and create chances.

Speaking to the club website, the midfielder discussed the Tottenham performance and revealed what Tuchel had been telling the side in training.

Kovacic said: “I think we’ve improved a lot in the last three games, we’ve got seven points. But we need to go game by game and try to be as up as possible and I think we can do it.

“I think we have little problems – we didn’t score against Burnley as well. In the last 15 minutes we were 1-0 up and it could be even more.

“This is a thing we need to improve, to finish games. I think this is one thing we will work a lot on.

“He [Tuchel] explained to us what he wants. It’s exactly that – to play fast forward, to create chances, to be in the opposition’s half.

“I think we’ve improved a lot in the last three games but I think we can be even better & be even more confident.

“In the games coming, we will be even better and we need to even better because we can do it.”

Chelsea’s win over Tottenham was their second in three games, and Kovacic expressed a desire to keep the good form going, saying: “It’s a good run. I think it should be nine because we had a great game against Wolves, unfortunately we didn’t win. But today we had another good game.

“Unfortunately we didn’t score the second to be more relaxed in the last 15/20 minutes. But it was a good game from us and we need to keep going.”
