An exciting day for Michigan on the recruiting trail included a verbal from Germantown (Tenn.) High 2022 four-star athlete Kody Jones who projects to cornerback on the next level.
Jones chose the Wolverines over an offer list that also Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Texas A&M and several others.
“Very excited, I’m very excited and blessed to be in this position,” said Jones who was recruited to Ann Arbor by Maurice Linguist.
“The relationship I had with Coach Mo, I felt it deep down inside. Coach Mo is a great coach and I feel like he can get the job done for me on and off the field.”
On film we see the 5-foot-11 1/2, 180-pound Jones making big plays at running back, in the return game and obviously in the secondary, a smooth, explosive prospect that can change direction, has that body control and after contact ability. He’s a physical football player.
“I love his intelligence, toughness and quickness as a player,” Coach James Williams of Pro Process Academy said. Jones could play corner or nickel on the next level. “I think he transitions well. When he plays in the slot he has a unique ability to use his feet and hands at a high level and he has ball skills. I think he’s going to be a big help in the return game also. I think his (high school coach) Gene Robinson has been a real blessing. Just us being able to work together, for him to have an offseason and things and playing in Pylon tournaments and things like that and encouraging the growth of his players coming to play with us.”
Linguist offered Jones in January and the two instantly clicked.
“Really the things he was saying I felt it so fast,” Jones said. “The things he was talking about, the future, the small things, I just took in those moments and knew they was real.”
The excitement about Michigan goes beyond Linguist.
“The tradition, all the great players that came from Michigan,” he said. “I feel like I’ve been praying about the situation and I feel like why wait. I’m just excited and ready to get started.”
