Michigan football gets verbal commitments from two 4-star 2022 prospects from Tennessee – Detroit Free Press

It has been a good week on the recruiting trail for Michigan football.

Days after flipping two defensive linemen on national signing day, the Wolverines added two four-star prospects to the 2022 class when East Robertson (Tennessee) athlete Taylor Groves and Germantown (Tennessee) athlete Kody Jones committed to Michigan on Friday morning.

Jones is the No. 9 prospect out of the Volunteer State for 2022 according to the 247Sports Composite rankings and is ranked No. 279 overall. He had interest from South Carolina and Texas A&M, among others. Jones, 5-foot-11½ and 180 pounds, has been used as a running back kick returner and defensive back in high school.

A few minutes later, four-star East Robertson safety Taylor Groves, from Cross Plains, published his commit video on social media.

Groves is the No. 6 prospect out of Tennessee, the No. 16 safety in the country and ranked No. 242 overall. The 6-2, 175-pounder had interests from several SEC schools, including Tennessee, LSU, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.

Jones was offered Jan. 19, while Groves was offered Jan. 27. Newly-hired defensive backs coach Maurice Linguist was the primary recruiter for both prospects.

Michigan’s 2022 class is now four deep, which includes verbal commitments from River Rouge defensive lineman Davonte Miles and Rabun Gap, Georgia, tight end Marlin Klein, both three-star prospects.

Eastside's Kodi Jones (1) breaks an attempted tackle by Travelers Rest's Cam Henderson (6) during their game Friday, October 4, 2019. Eastside won 45-34.

U-M brought in the No. 10 class in the country for 2021, second best in the Big Ten behind Ohio State.
