The Trail Blazers departed snowy Portland on Saturday for their upcoming three-game road trip. Prior to that exit, veteran forward Carmelo Anthony encountered a delay due to less-than-ideal road conditions. Thanks to Brad Showers, a fellow driver and Blazers season ticket holder, Melo received the assistance he needed to make the flight to Dallas.
Following the ordeal, Showers spoke with KOIN 6’s AJ McCord about his encounter with Melo.
“We see somebody on the side of the road that was stuck,” Showers recalled. “I actually passed him and then I’m like, ‘that was Carmelo Anthony!’ I literally slammed on my brakes, so not necessarily doing a good Samaritan thing but I just couldn’t help thinking that that guy can’t be stuck on the side of the road. So, I jacked it in reverse and lo-and-behold Carmelo Anthony was kind of stuck a little.”
Showers, who was on his way to de-ice rental properties, interrupted his pre-planned schedule and lended a hand to the Blazers forward. Melo, who has scored at least 20 points in five out of his last six games, made it to the Blazers’ flight on time thanks to the assist from Showers.
