The Green Bay Packers have released former Browns linebacker Christian Kirksey after just one season.
The Packers severed ties with Kirksey in a move to see some salary cap room. Green Bay also dumped right tackle Rick Wagner after just a season.
Kirksey was the Browns captain and emotional leader of the team for most of his Cleveland tenure, which ran from 2014 through 2019. Injuries bothered “Kirko” in Cleveland and that carried over to Green Bay, unfortunately.
From Packers Wire,
Signed to provide a veteran linebacker for former defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, Kirksey struggled early, missed five games to a chest injury and was eventually replaced as the team’s No. 1 linebacker. He intercepted two passes and produced two sacks, but he graded out as one of the NFL’s worst inside linebackers at Pro Football Focus during the 2020 season.
The Browns do have a need for some help at linebacker, but Kirksey’s inability to stay healthy or perform consistently anymore would seem to rule him out for a return to Cleveland.
