Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool manager rules himself out of Germany job – The Athletic

What has Klopp said?

When asked about whether he would take the role, Klopp said: “Am I available for the coach of the German national team in the summer? No.

“Joachim Low did an incredible job. I’m sure the German FA will find a good solution.”

“I have three years left at LFC don’t I? It’s simple. You sign a contract and you stick to that contract. I stuck to contracts at Mainz and Dortmund.”

What is Liverpool’s current form like?

The Premier League champions’ form has tailed off in recent months.

They have lost their last six home games in the league — the first time in the club’s history. They had gone 68 league matches at Anfield unbeaten before their current run started with a loss to Burnley in January, and now have the worst home record in England’s top four tiers this calendar year.

Having romped to the league last season, Jurgen Klopp’s side are in eighth place and 22 points behind leaders Manchester City. With a title defence out of reach, Liverpool are also facing an uphill battle to make the top four this campaign.

How have Germany performed recently?

Germany have struggled recently under Low. They were knocked out in the group stage of the 2018 World Cup, the first time in their history they had exited in that part of the tournament.

They also finished bottom of their group in the inaugural Nations League. Moreover, they finished second in their 2020-21 Nations League group, which included a 6-0 defeat to Spain in November 2020.
