Following the outcry over Florida judge Carlos Sucre’s score card in Saturday night’s Estrada-Chocolatito 2 fight, the WBA have “temporarily suspended” Sucre pending an “evaluation” of his performance in the bout.
Sucre scored the fight 117-111 for Estrada (42-3, 28 KO), who won a split decision over Chocolatito Gonzalez (50-3, 41 KO) and unified the WBC and WBA titles at 115 pounds. Gonzalez had come in holding the WBA belt. The WBC have not shown any interest in suspending Sucre, but I suppose they could also make this sort of likely empty gesture.
Like, they didn’t even put the right score card image in their Tweet about it. They used the one from the McCaskill-Braekhus fight:
So, yes, consider me skeptical of any CONSEQUENCES!! Sanctioning bodies do this sort of thing from time to time to respond and make it look like they care what anyone thinks, but the most likely outcome of this is, basically, nothing will happen.
