Cox: How Tottenhams right side left Arsenal the space to dominate – The Athletic

The two goals scored in the first half of Sunday’s north London derby couldn’t have been more different.

Tottenham’s opener, scored by Eric Lamela, was a truly wondrous piece of individual magic, scored entirely out of the blue.

On the other hand, Arsenal’s equaliser, courtesy of a deflected Martin Odegaard finish, was the most predictable goal you’ll see all season. The only surprising aspect of Arsenal’s first goal was the fact it took 44 minutes to arrive as Mikel Arteta’s side had been making inroads down Spurs’ right throughout the entire first half.

In theory, this battle was Arsenal’s left-wing pairing of Kieran Tierney and Emile Smith Rowe against Spurs’ Matt Doherty and Gareth Bale.
