TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Bali now has recorded 1,000 Covid-19 deaths after four more people died from the virus. Authorities reported on Thursday, March 11 that the latest casualties of the pandemic are from Jembrana, Badung, and two from Buleleng.

“When we looked at the total case load in Bali of 36,545 people, the mortality rate is 2.74 percent,” said the province’s Covid-19 Task Force chief, Dewa Made Indra.

Within a year of pandemic, most of the Covid-19 deaths in Bali were recorded by Denpasar (214 people), followed by Badung (169), Gianyar (128), Tabanan (125), and Buleleng (103 people).

Dewa Indra said that Bali now has 1,849 active cases. The island recorded 33,696 recoveries so far, or 92.2 percent.

Separately, Satpol PP Badung chief, I Gusti Agung Suryanegara, said that on Thursday 367 foreign nationals and 44 Indonesians have been fined for violating health protocols.

Since Bali enacted health protocol patrols on January 11, authorities have sanctioned 2,240 offenders, most of whom are foreign tourists.

“Most of them who violate the health protocol are Russian tourists. In their minds, using masks are only mandatory to those who have the virus or people who are sick,” he said.
