The Detroit Lions had shown enough interest in former Falcons safety Damontae Kazee that they brought him in for an official visit on Thursday. But if they were hoping to sign him this year, they’ll have to look elsewhere for some secondary help. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Kazee will be signing with the Dallas Cowboys.
Kazee was an interesting free agent this year. He had some significant success in his young career, peaking with his 2018 season in which he tied for the league lead in interceptions. However, last year he tore his achilles four games into the season, and teams were obviously still concerned about that injury enough to want to bring him in for a visit.
But the Lions will not get to see how his future plays out in Detroit. Instead, they will have to find some much-needed safety help somewhere else this offseason. As of now, the Lions have already lost Miles Killebrew to free agency and don’t appear to be interested in bringing back Duron Harmon. That leaves just Tracy Walker, Will Harris and special teamers Godwin Igwebuike, Jalen Elliott and Bobby Price on the roster at safety.
