My NBA media Zoom boycott took a brief pause on Thursday afternoon.
The trade deadline was over, and the process of trying to learn a few things about how deals went down — or didn’t go down — had already begun. It didn’t take long to decide which storyline was worth pursuing first: Why didn’t Toronto trade Kyle Lowry?
So when the email invite landed at 3:04 p.m. Pacific time for a chance to (virtually) connect with “a member of the Toronto Raptors front office,” it was time to make a rare appearance on one of these media sessions that aren’t typically my style. Little did I know how much of a delight it would turn out to be.
As it turned out, Raptors president Masai Ujiri was the featured guest — or, rather, host. And with all due respect to general manager Bobby Webster, who is a friendly fellow with a wonderful reputation and a fast-rising career, this was the right Raptors person to speak on this day.
