Masahiro Tanaka expected to miss three weeks with calf injury – New York Post

Observations from the Yankees’ 4-1 spring training loss to the Orioles at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Friday.

Green O’Day

Chad Green and Darren O’Day were both effective, with O’Day striking out the only batter he faced and Green tossing a scoreless inning in the eighth.

Closing time

Aroldis Chapman was booed as he walked off the mound after allowing three runs — and tossing three wild pitches — while getting just one out in the seventh. Aaron Boone said Chapman was “yanking the ball,” something that will have to be addressed.

Caught my eye

While the two starters the Yankees brought into the rotation with injury histories — Corey Kluber and Jameson Taillon — have stayed healthy, Masahiro Tanaka will miss his first start with Rakuten Golden Eagles, thanks to a right calf injury. The 32-year-old is expected to miss three weeks.

Saturday’s schedule

The Yankees face the Blue Jays at 1:05 p.m., with Jhoulys Chacin scheduled to take the mound. Taillon will throw live batting practice at the Player Development Complex.
