NFL rumors: QB Colt McCoy lands on his feet after leaving Giants – NJ.com

Colt McCoy is heading west to continue his NFL career.

ESPN reports the former New York Giants quarterback signed a one-year contract Tuesday with the Arizona Cardinals, where he will back up Kyler Murray.

The Cardinals let quarterback Brett Hundley, who backed up Murray in 2019 and was the team’s third-string quarterback in 2020, walk in free agency, leaving the team with former CFL quarterback Chris Streveler as Murray’s backup. …. McCoy could fill Hundley’s role as the veteran presence in the Cardinals’ quarterbacks room while being inactive all season.

McCoy could read the writing on the wall after the Giants signed Mike Glennon earlier this month to back up quarterback Daniel Jones in 2021.

The 34-year-old McCoy is a 10-year NFL veteran and a former third-round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2010.

McCoy played in four games with the Giants in 2020, starting twice, leading New York to an upset win over the Seattle Seahawks in Week 13.

McCoy finished the season with 375 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception, along with a 60.6 completion percentage.
