Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone season 3 looks to be the biggest so far for either game. On Monday, Treyarch and Raven Software released a massive preview of changes coming this season, including six new weapons, the return of Price as an Operator, the mysterious Verdansk event, and new maps.
One of season 3’s earliest highlights will be its new weapons. On launch week, Black Ops Cold War and Warzone will get the PPSH-41 sub-machine gun, a fast-firing weapon that’s perfect for charging into fights; the Swiss K31 sniper rifle, a bolt-action rifle with high damage and impressive speed; and the return of the ballistic knife, a spring-action knife and Call of Duty series favorite. Both games will also receive a few more weapons this season including the CARV.2 tactical rifle, the AMP 63 SMG, and even a good old-fashioned baseball bat.
On the Warzone side, season 3 will also kick off with some kind of massive event to deal with Verdansk’s zombie problem. The post itself is pretty vague on the specifics of the event, but it reminds players to be online at 3 p.m. EDT on April 21 to see what happens. If this event really is the nuclear launch that’s been teased — and leaked — then it could result in massive Verdansk changes for the new season.
For Black Ops Cold War, season 3 will have plenty of new multiplayer maps for players to check out. On launch week, the new season will include Yamantau, a 6v6 map set at a snowy Soviet observatory, and Diesel, a small town set in America for 6v6 games and Gunfight. Later in the season, fans will get access to Standoff, a classic Black Ops 2 map, and Duga, a multi-team map set in the Ural mountains. Black Ops Cold War will also get Price as a new Operator, for fans who miss one of Call of Duty’s most famous characters.
Of course, season 3 will also feature some new Zombies content specifically for the Outbreak mode. The season’s launch will add a new region to the mode called Duga, the same map that will make its way to multiplayer later in the season.
Treyarch also revealed the file size required for the patch for both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone-only players. The season 3 update will be between 8 and 13 GB for Black Ops Cold War and around 25 GB for Warzone players. The season 3 update will go live on April 22.
