Jeff Bridich steps down as Rockies GM after months of turbulence, Dick Monfort extends his influence – The Athletic

After state and city departments of health cleared the Rockies to host more than 21,000 fans this month, Coors Field quickly filled to its limited capacity. Baseball returned to Colorado. And so did the frustration.

“Fire Bridich” t-shirts dotted the seats, more and more. Morale among fans seemed low. And after the Rockies started their season 4-12, the worst record in baseball, the bubble around Colorado’s front office finally popped.

On Monday, Rockies owner Dick Monfort reckoned with change. He encouraged Jeff Bridich to resign as general manager after seven years, and Bridich accepted. The Rockies will soon name an interim general manager in Bridich’s place, then dive into a full search for a permanent replacement later this year.
