The Green Bay Packers used the 178th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL draft on Appalachian State cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles.
Jean-Charles (5-10, 184) produced 33 pass breakups and two interceptions over 50 games and 25 games during his collegiate career. Over the last two seasons, he broke up 27 passes.
Given his height and movement ability, the Packers will likely use Jean-Charles in the slot as competition for returning starter Chandon Sullivan.
The Packers have now double-dipped at cornerback at taking Eric Stokes in the first round. With Sullivan and Kevin King both free agents after the 2021 season, the Packers acquired competition and potential future starters at a premium in this draft class.
Jean-Charles ran 4.52 in the 40-yard dash and had poor times in agility drills. His RAS is just 4.27.
Florida defensive lineman T.J. Slaton was the team’s other pick in the fifth round. The Packers have three more picks to make over the final two rounds.
