Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher on Nick Saban, Alabama: Were going to beat him – USA TODAY

Editor’s note: A previous version of this story included the incorrect College Football Playoff ranking for Texas A&M. They finished fifth.

Texas A&M football coach Jimbo Fisher jabbed Alabama coach Nick Saban on Wednesday, claiming the Aggies would defeat Saban’s Crimson Tide.

“We’re going to beat his ass when he’s there, don’t worry,” Fisher said to a crowd at the Houston Touchdown Club, according to audio from the Houston Chronicle. Fisher was asked what it would take to beat Alabama outside of Nick Saban retiring.

After the playful shot, Fisher went on to praise and pay his respect to Saban’s success – which includes six national championships with Alabama and one with LSU.

Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M have not beaten Alabama since he arrived in 2017.

“Eventually, that’s going to be us,” Fisher told the Touchdown Club. “I respect everything they do and how they do it, but we can do it just as good or be just as good or better, and we will.”

Texas A&M finished last season 9-1 and No. 5 in the final College Football Playoff rankings. But since Fisher’s 2017 arrival, Saban’s Tide are 3-0 against his Aggies.

The two SEC rivals face off Oct. 9 in College Station.
