Adam Haseley is back with the Phillies organization.
It’ll take some time for the 25-year-old to get back into baseball shape, but the Florida native is in Clearwater in preparation for his eventual return. Haseley was placed on the restricted list for personal reasons on April 14. He last appeared in a game on April 13.
“We’re happy he’s back and he’s raring to go,” Joe Girardi said during his pregame availability Friday.
Haseley is no longer on the 40-man roster because he is on the restricted list. He’ll remain on the list as he prepares for his return, but once the Phillies center fielder is ready, he’ll have to be added back and the Phillies will have a tough roster decision to make. Odúbel Herrera took Haseley’s spot on the roster at the end of April.
When Girardi informed reporters of Haseley’s intial absence, the Phillies manager could not say for sure if he would be back before the end of the season. Girardi noted that the former first-round pick is in good spirits and is excited to return to action.
Other Injury Updates
Didi Gregorius (right elbow) will not be in the lineup for Friday’s game. He’s still dealing with stiffness in his right elbow. He was removed from Wednesday’s game after his second at-bat. Girardi said after the game that his elbow “acted up.” The Phillies shortstop previously dealt with swelling in that elbow when he landed on it while making a catch in the series against the San Francisco Giants in April.
Archie Bradley (left oblique strain) needed just 10 pitches to retire the side in a rehab outing for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Wednesday. He’s on track to appear in another game on Saturday. Girardi hopes that his outing lasts a little longer.
“We want him to throw a few more than 10 pitches, though,” Girardi said. “I mean, it’s good when you get quick outs but he’ll be extended a little bit further, whether it’s just a longer inning, or if he has to sit down and go out for another hitter, we can see that happening.”
If there are no setbacks, Bradley should be back in the Phillies bullpen for Tuesday’s series opener against the Miami Marlins.
Quinn (laceration of the right index finger) was scheduled to take some at-bats at the Carpenter Complex on Friday. He’s dealing with soreness in his finger, so his first at-bats following his injury have been delayed. The Phillies center fielder is eligible to come off the injured list Saturday.
Matt Joyce (calf strain) is not yet ready to begin a rehab assignment. He took batting practice on Friday and did some running.
J.T. Realmuto has been reinstated from the COVID-IL. He’ll bat fourth as the designated hitter. As a corresponding move, the Phillies have optioned right-handed pitcher Enyel De Los Santos to Triple-A.
