Golden Nuggets: Carson Wentz believes Trey Lance is in a great situation with the 49ers – Niners Nation

Florio, in only a way Florio is capable, is still writing about what Tom Brady said on HBO from a clip nearly a week ago now. He’s obsessed with tearing Jimmy G down. It’s pretty bizarre.

Lance got advice from Wentz ahead of first training camp

“There are going to be a million things pulling you in one direction, then the other direction, pressure, expectations, all these things,” Wentz said. “But I know Trey. He’s got a great head on his shoulders. He’s young, age-wise, but he’s very mature. I know he’s going to be just fine.

“He’s in a great situation. They have a great culture there in San Fran, a good coaching staff. So I know he’s going to do a great job, and I’m excited for him. I just keep telling him to be himself: ‘Don’t let any of those things change who you are, change your values, change your perspective on football. Just go play.’ ”

The Niners wrapped up their offseason program a couple of weeks ago, and players are on a break until they report to training camp on July 27. Their first practice will be four days later.

Lance has been working hard during his time off, taking what he learned in the spring and preparing for the rigors of training camp. Several videos (here, here, and here) have surfaced of the rookie quarterback getting in reps during throwing sessions.

San Francisco 49ers’ George Kittle says tight ends ‘do everything,’ deserve respect

“100% it does,” Kittle told ESPN when asked if the way his position is being undervalued bothers him. “I think TE is the most unique and diverse position. It’s the most fun position because it’s the only one on the field where you get to do everything that a football player does. You run block, you pass pro, you get to run routes and catch the football. We do everything!”

49ers: Why Talanoa Hufanga pushes Marcell Harris off roster by Week 1

One early indication the Niners weren’t pleased with Harris was the free-agent grab of journeyman veteran safety Tavon Wilson, who despite primarily being a special teams ace for most of his career, has shown a knack for being a better coverage option than Harris.

Hufanga, meanwhile, made the most of his chances during the final six games of his collegiate tenure, registering an impressive four interceptions, another pass broken up and three sacks over that abbreviated span.

As a result, PFF rewarded Hufanga with an impressive 86.8 pass-coverage grade.

Granted, Hufanga’s collegiate success doesn’t automatically mean he’ll have the same fruits at the NFL level. Hufanga’s straight-line speed is questionable at best, and there are the assumed difficulties any rookie will face upon transitioning to the pros. It’s just as possible Hufanga flames out during training camp and the preseason, too, almost mandating San Francisco to hold onto Harris as a result.

As evidence points to other teams, one person still believes Tom Brady was dissing the 49ers

“I look back, I’m like, there’s no (expletive) way I would have went to that team,” Brady said via Maya. “But they said they didn’t want me, and I know what that means. I know what that feels like and I’m going to (expletive) you up because of that.”

“The trail of breadcrumbs keeps leading back to the 49ers and Jimmy Garoppolo,” Florio adds. “So what if both players are represented by the same agent? Brady basically represents himself, negotiating the number and telling Don Yee to draw up the paperwork. Brady’s not going to alter his opinions about other Yee clients.”
