Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts said Monday the NCAA made a mistake by stopping North Carolina State from playing another game in the 2021 Men’s College World Series. Two unvaccinated NC State players tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, and another four team members later tested positive. The NCAA declared NC State’s game against Vanderbilt set for Saturday a “no contest”, sending Vanderbilt to the championship and sending NC State home.”The NCAA made a mistake in forcing North Carolina State to withdraw from the College World Series,” said Ricketts at Monday news conference. “Those players are at very low risk. Is the NCAA now going to tell them they can’t drive? They can’t get in cars? And they’re playing a game outside which means they’re not likely to spread it to anyone else.””What the NCAA, in my opinion, has done is really create a problem by saying if we’re not going to take any risk tolerance, what are they going to allow?” said Ricketts.Ricketts commented on the College World Series as he announced Nebraska would end its state of emergency over the coronavirus pandemic on June 30th.In a statement early Saturday, the NCAA said it made the decision on the recommendation of the Championship medical team and the Douglas County Health Department.
