Vanderbilt Athletic Director Candice Storey Lee came out swinging in a series of tweets Tuesday alleging parents were subjected to racial slurs during Monday’s Game One of the College World Series Championship. Lee did not expand on who allegedly used the slurs, but said she was “deeply troubled,” calling it “absolutely unacceptable and disgraceful behavior.”Lee went on to say all families impacted have her full support and the “wholehearted support” of Vanderbilt athletics and Commodore Nation. Mississippi State Athletic Director John Cohen also denounced the incident.”We join Vanderbilt in declaring such behavior unacceptable and in direct conflict with the values of both institutions and our fan bases,” Cohen said in a statement posted on Twitter. “The College World Series serves as a celebration of the entire sport of college baseball. Highly inappropriate events must neither be tolerated nor allowed to detract from the on-the-field accomplishments of the student-athletes and their teams who have earned the right to participate on this national stage.”Omaha’s Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority also condemned the incident. Spokesperson Kristyna Engdahl said MECA was “saddened” it took place in TD Ameritrade Park.It was unclear who was responsible for making the slurs.
