The NL West is getting even more competitive. Just as we expected.
Washington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer and shortstop Trea Turner appear to be heading to the Los Angeles Dodgers. This will create even more drama for the Giants, who currently sit in first place in the division.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on Thursday, citing sources, the Dodgers and Nationals are “finalizing” a blockbuster deal involving the two stars.
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported the prospect haul the Dodgers will be receiving, citing sources.
This came shortly after it was reported Scherzer was “close” to being traded to the San Diego Padres.
Scherzer had many teams interested in him, and rightfully so. The three-time Cy Young Award winner and future Hall of Famer adds to any starting rotation, but only bolsters what the Dodgers have and fills the space of Trevor Bauer, who remains on administrative leave.
Scherzer this season is boasting a 2.83 ERA with 142 strikeouts in 105 innings. Good enough for a 0.89 WHIP.
Scherzer, and his wife, Erica, both offered goodbyes Thursday after Scherzer’s final start in Washington, as they know they will head to another team. The eight-time All-Star also wanted to play for a west-coast team and wants to be a part of a team vying for the postseason. The Dodgers currently sit in second place (62-42) behind the Giants (64-38).

Trea Turner will immediately bolster the Dodgers’ offense as well, as he’s slashing a .322/.369/.521 with 125 hits and 49 RBI this season. He’s easily one of the best hitters on the trading block this season.
Assuming this move is completed, it will change the course of the rest of the trade deadline which ends on Friday at 1 p.m. PT.
