San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan stated that the plan was to have Nick Bosa start participating in team drills this week. Until now, the third-year defensive end had only been going through individual drills.
As expected, Bosa is taking part in team drills today. The Niners are preparing for their third and final preseason game, a Sunday afternoon matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders at Levi’s Stadium.
How did Bosa do in his first rep during team drills? He did Bosa-like things.
Nick Bosa’s first team rep pass rush back from his ACL tear: Sack #49ers
— David Lombardi (@LombardiHimself) August 25, 2021
The 23-year-old pass rusher is returning from a torn ACL suffered during Week 2 of last season. In 2019, Bosa recorded 47 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, 25 quarterback hits, nine sacks, an interception, two passes defensed, and a forced fumble on his way to being named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
“Nick’s good to go,” Shanahan told reporters before today’s practice. “He’s going to get some team reps today.”
What does the coach want to see from Bosa this week?
“It’s more mental, to me, with that,” Shanahan responded. “He looks great on the side, doing all the football movements in individual and stuff. To me, it’s more of his mind, which all guys need coming off a serious injury like that. Nick’s ready for football. He just needs to go through some reps. He’s back in there, and I hope he feels good about it at the end of the day.”
Shanahan added that safety Jaquiski Tartt (toe), who was activated off the physically-unable-to-perform list today, will take part in practice this week. The hope is to have him play on Sunday against the Raiders.
Offensive tackle Trent Williams returned to practice this week. He was sidelined last week due to a knee injury. Wide receiver Jalen Hurd (knee) also returned to the practice field.
The head coach also commented on pass rusher Dee Ford‘s progress.
“Dee Ford’s been good,” Shanahan said. “He’s been on a steady pace. I think he’s gotten enough reps in this camp. We’ll keep continuing with the same pace for these three days, and I’ll decide [if he’ll play] Sunday at the end of the week for him and pretty much all the players. But we’re good with the pace he’s been on.”

‘Violent’ and ‘explosive’ 49ers RB JaMycal Hasty earns George Kittle’s approval
San Francisco 49ers running back JaMycal Hasty has earned the George Kittle Seal of Approval. The All-Pro tight end’s spot on the roster is secure. Hasty is still fighting to prove himself among a deep group of running backs that features Raheem Mostert, Trey Sermon, Wayne Gallman, Elijah Mitchell, and Jeff Wilson Jr.
Hasty is taking advantage of his opportunities. His reps have increased with Mitchell (adductor) and Wilson (knee) sidelined.
Hasty carried the football 10 times last weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs, producing 63 yards and a touchdown. He also hauled in the one pass thrown his way for a five-yard gain. Unfortunately, Hasty also lost a fumble, which will never earn you points in head coach Kyle Shanahan’s mind.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan lays out the plan for Nick Bosa, Dee Ford
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan says he is excited about the progress of two defenders returning from injuries—pass rushers Dee Ford and Nick Bosa. By Week 2 last season, both were permanently out of the lineup, and the defense missed their presence for the remainder of the year.
Ford, who is coming off neck and back injuries, has been practicing, and Shanahan is becoming more optimistic that the veteran will be available for the whole season. But, of course, the team is still being careful with Ford, limiting his reps in practice and trying to avoid any setbacks.
“These last few practices, he’s getting more and more reps and playing at a high level,” Shanahan said Thursday morning on KNBR’s Murph & Mac show. “And the key is to
49ers-Chiefs: How long will Trey Lance play? You won’t see Dee Ford, Jalen Hurd, or Nick Bosa
What’s the plan for Saturday when the San Francisco 49ers open their preseason by hosting the Kansas City Chiefs at Levi’s Stadium? First, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and the starters will get a series, Kyle Shanahan revealed yesterday. The coach hopes that series isn’t a three-and-out.
Regardless, the starters won’t be out there very long, so don’t get to the stadium late if you plan to attend.
“On offense, you hope you can go down and score in six plays or something like that and get those guys out,” Shanahan said during a KNBR interview.
“I’m not playing every starter, but there’s some starters I want to keep out for health reasons and
49ers hope Nick Bosa will be full-go at practice next week, says Kyle Shanahan
San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa has not participated in team drills yet, and won’t do so this week. The team is being extra cautious with its young pass rusher, hoping to have him available for the entire season.
Bosa is coming off an ACL injury, which he suffered during Week 2 last season. He has only participated in warmups and individual drills up to this point. Head coach Kyle Shanahan expects that to change next week as the team begins preparations for its final preseason game, a matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders at Levi’s Stadium on August 29.
After today’s practice, Shanahan was asked if the plan is still to have Bosa participate in team drills next week.
“That’s what we’re hoping for,” Shanahan responded. “I think if we stay
