It’s tough to make a team as an undrafted free agent, and it’s even harder when you play a position where your team already has depth. One of the stars of the Minnesota Vikings’ preseason learned that on Tuesday.
The team has announced that they have waived running back A.J. Rose Jr. as a part of their final roster cuts.
Rose was signed by the Vikings as an undrafted free agent this past spring after a successful college career at Kentucky. Because of injuries, Rose got a significant amount of playing time this preseason, putting up a 100-yard performance in the opener against Denver and scoring what turned out to be the Vikings’ only two offensive touchdowns of the preseason last week against Kansas City.
With names like Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison firmly entrenched for the Vikings and the team reportedly high on fourth-round pick Kene Nwangwu, Rose making the roster was always going to be an uphill climb. Hopefully the team will find a way to bring him back to the practice squad.
We will be keeping track of all of the Vikings’ final roster cuts on our Roster Cut Tracker, which you can find right here.
