The training videos that previous indisputable heavyweight champ Mike Tyson has been launching on social media werent simply for program, it ends up. Yahoo Sports has gained from multiple sources that Tyson plans to return to boxing to deal with Roy Jones Jr. on Sept. 12 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Andy Foster, the executive director of the California State Athletic Commission, verified that Tyson has put a hang on that date. Foster told Yahoo Sports that he met Tyson and Jones by means of Zoom recently which the fight will be an exhibit.
They will not be using headgear, however will be wearing larger than normal gloves. Foster stated he believed they d wear 12 ounce gloves.
” This isnt a scenario where theyre going out there to attempt to take each others heads off,” Foster informed Yahoo Sports. “Theyre simply going to be in there walking around the ring and letting fans see these legends.”
Tyson hasnt fought because losing to Kevin McBride on June 11, 2005. Jones hasnt battled considering that Feb. 8, 2018. Tyson is 54 and Jones is 51.
Foster said there had been talk that there would have been a boxing match in between previous world champ James Toney and former UFC champ Tito Ortiz on the undercard, but stated Ortiz told him it wasnt going to happen.
Foster confirmed to Yahoo Sports that he expects YouTube star Jake Paul to eliminate ex-NBA gamer Nate Robinson on the undercard.
After Yahoo Sports preliminary report of the story, Tyson published a video on his Instagram page in which he revealed the formation of the Legends Only League, which he stated will consist of professional athletes from a number of sports. He didnt define how they will contend.
But interest in Tysons return to boxing increased earlier this year when Tyson released training sessions with kept in mind MMA coach Rafael Cordeiro in which he was hitting the mitts. That stoked rumors of a comeback.
