T.J. Watt’s fiancée, Dani Rhodes, sent her future husband a sweet message after the Steelers star became the highest paid defense player in the league on Thursday.
After the news broke about his four-year $112 million extension with Pittsburgh — following a back-and-forth contract battle — Rhodes took to her Instagram Story to repost the official announcement shared by the NFL.
“Hardest working person I know,” the University of Wisconsin women’s soccer alum wrote. “There is no one more deserving. Congratulations babe I’m so beyond proud of you.”
Rhodes, who’s in Iceland where she’s playing professional soccer, added, “I love you & can’t wait to celebrate soon.”
She also re-shared an Instagram post Watt uploaded after the deal became public, in which the 26-year-old wrote, “If it’s ok with Yinz, I’d like to stay a while!! LETS GO PITTSBURGH!!!!!!”
The couple has a lot to celebrate these days as they look forward to their wedding day. Watt got down on one knee in early July, and popped the question with a stunning, circular diamond ring. The proposal took place in a scenic outdoor setting that overlooked the ocean.
At the time, Watt and Rhodes shared engagement photos to Instagram. The three-time Pro Bowler wrote, “I am the luckiest man in the world!!” The soccer star gushed, “I get to marry my best friend. I can’t wait to love you FOREVER!”
Just days later, Rhodes announced on Instagram that she had signed with Thróttur Reykjavík Football Club to continue her professional soccer career in Iceland.
Following the news of Watt’s mega deal, his brother and Cardinals star JJ Watt had some fun with their near identical names.
“.@_TJWatt should I send those outstanding IOU’s to your accountant or do you want to just Venmo me?” JJ tweeted.
