Falcons reportedly cut 3 players from practice squad – The Falcoholic

You’ve probably been watching like a hawk to see if the Falcons might pick up any free agents, just as we have, given that the team looked so shaky against the Eagles and could clearly use a little help. We haven’t seen any of those signings yet, but the Falcons did make a handful of moves on the practice squad that suggest something’s coming.

In total, the team reportedly cut three players from the practice squad, parting ways with recently-signed kicker Elliott Fry, wide receiver Juwan Green and tight end David Wells.

The most surprising name here is Fry, who was just signed recently as insurance for Younghoe Koo and Cam Nizialek. Green latched on to the practice squad after finishing preseason strong, but the Falcons have six receivers on the roster and have Austin Trammell and Keelan Doss also available at receiver on the practice squad. He might have a clearer path to a roster spot elsewhere. Ditto Wells, who was the fifth or sixth tight end depending on where John Raine is in the pecking order.

James Vaughters was flexed from the practice squad rather than promoted, so the Falcons have three open spots as soon as this is official. They may simply have three other practice squad players in mind—this team figures to be restless and bring in players they like who become available for short stints to see who sticks—but this may also be a sign that at least Feleipe Franks is headed to the practice squad after Josh Rosen was listed as Matt Ryan’s clear-cut backup for the first time today. We’ll likely know in the next couple of days, because if Atlanta’s planning to free up roster spots and sign anyone they think will be useful against the Buccaneers, they’ll want to do so pretty much immediately.

We wish Fry, Green and Wells well at their next stop, but don’t be stunned if they end up back on Atlanta’s practice squad at some point, either. Let’s see what moves the Falcons have in store as they prepare for the Buccaneers.
